Sam Crabb, Leader of the Liberal Democrat County Group said today "I am dismayed at the plans agreed by the Conservative administration, to create 8 new Directors at County Hall. These changes will mean the people of Somerset will now be poorly served by having only one senior point of contact - who will be the new Customers & Communities Director."
The proposed structure shows the Chief Executive leading a team of 8 Directors, four of which will be dealing with the commissioning of services.
Gloria Cawood, Shadow Cabinet member for Communities added "the County Council under the Tories will become even more inward looking than they are now. What we are seeing is the loss of experience and knowledge from the County Council on a grand scale."
The proposed savings from this restructure will be £600,000 per annum, which will help a great deal in plugging financial holes caused by the present conservative administration's financially imprudent schemes -- from the now defunct Cabinet Office, legal fees for the Judicial Review on Libraries, fly tipping and other expensive ideas that actually cost taxpayers' money, rather than saving it.
