The internationally recognised Southwest One contract, entered into by Somerset County Council, Avon & Somerset Police, Taunton Deane Borough Council and IBM has come under constant, unsubstantiated attack from the Bridgwater MP, Ian Liddell-Grainger. In reply to these attacks, external auditors presented a report to the council's Audit & Resources Scrutiny sub-committee on 7th November.
This report concluded that the Council's procurement and governance arrangements were "robust" and confirmed its belief that a £200 million savings target (over ten years) from the Joint Venture is achievable.
Cllr. Crabb commented this morning:
"Since Mr. Liddell-Grainger has repeatedly refused invitations to meet senior politicians and officers from the county council to discuss the contract with us, I have sent him a full copy of the report for him to read on a long plane journey he has planned for today. I sincerely hope he has the good manners to read it in full before he launches into another tirade against us."
