The Liberal Democrat Group at County Hall are pleased that the Conservatives have apologised (via a county council press statement issued this morning) for the serious allegations levied at the council's Chairman, Councillor Alan Gloak. These implied mis-use of public funds for political and personal advantage.
The role of Chairman is non-political and the appointment is confirmed by all 58 members of the council at the Annual General Meeting.
However, the Conservatives have crossed the line by making unscrupulous allegations against Alan Gloak, in order to score political points and in so doing, damaged the reputation of his office.
The Liberal Democrat group accept their apology with good grace but wish it hadn't been necessary to defend the office and reputation of the Chairman of the Council.
