There have been attempts in the press and on the Internet by the Bridgwater MP, to discredit the work of the members and staff of Somerset County Council, with regard to the South West One venture partnership.
As leader of the County Council, I feel strongly that it is my duty to defend the Chief Executive, Alan Jones and the council officers through to frontline staff, who deliver the council's excellent services.
I am immensely proud that their unstinting hard work and dedication has taken us from being a 'fair' authority to an 'outstanding' one, being awarded the maximum four stars by Independent government auditors for two years running.
It is outrageous that they have since been subjected to a sustained campaign of abuse and bullying by a Somerset MP. The County has a right to expect more from its public servants.
