As usual, Mr. Maddock has taken words out of context and turned them into works of fiction (Conservative press release; 'Council goes for Broke').
The words that the Tory leader has selected, refer to self-financing schemes, so why would you set a limit? Clearly if if doesn't pay for itself, we would not do it.
Once again, the leader of the opposition and his spokesman, who do not bother to read the papers or turn up to meetings, go for the headline-grabbing and scare-mongering tactics, that mislead readers.
It once again proves they are incapable of understanding finance. The Liberal Democrats are excellent financial managers and we have core policies that lead our strategy:
1. Affordability - if it's not affordable, we don't do it.
2. Prudential borrowing limits have to be adhered to and we are so good at this, many other authorities ask us to borrow for them.
If you cannot trust the Tories to understand the council's finances, then they clearly cannot be trusted to take responsibility for any area of the council's work.
ENDS.
