It's been a good week to be a Liberal Democrat at County Hall!
The week began with the wonderful news that the council's bid to restore Taunton Castle and create the Museum of Somerset has been welcomed by the Heritage Lottery Fund and £4.8m has now been earmarked for this.
In the middle of the week, members voted at Full Council to proceed to the next stage of the ISiS (Improving Services in Somerset) project, which is the most ambitious new venture of its kind in the country, possibly the world! It is a business partnership which will bring the County Council's 'back office' functions into the 21st century and produce better outcomes for all service users.
And lastly, as if all this wasn't enough - the government team who thoroughly inspected us in December, awarded the County Council 4 stars, which means we are an excellent authority and among the best in the country. We were especially pleased that it was our Highways scoring which took us up to the coveted top position and thank all the staff, in whatever role, for their continued hard work and devotion to the residents of Somerset
