TORIES BAILED OUT AGAIN! - 5 MILLION TO HELP REBUILD ROADS IN SOMERSET DUE TO FLOODING

This week the Tory run Somerset County Council announced that they will be getting an additional £5 million to help rebuild roads that have been badly affected by the recent devastating floods.
Cllr Dave Greene, Shadow Cabinet Member for Highways today welcomed the extra £5 million capital grant from the Government. He said, "With the damagecaused by flooding and very heavy rainfall over the last year, the County Council really needed this grant money.

Nick Clegg and Paddy Ashdown joined local MPs Tessa Munt, Jeremy Browne, David Laws and David Heath on Saturday, 12th January in Highbridge to launch the Lib Dem campaign to take control of Somerset County Council in May.
Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of the Lib Dems Nick Clegg said "I am delighted to be joining Paddy Ashdown and our amazing Somerset team in Highbridge, including our brilliant candidate for the Highbridge & Burnham Marine District Council seat, Helen Groves. We have come here to launch our challenge to the Conservatives who have forced this County to its knees over the last four years.

Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg has used his keynote speech to the Lib Dem Party conference in Brighton to announce extra money for 110,000 children struggling with maths and English.
The Deputy Prime Minister said secondary schools in England will receive an extra £55 million to help pupils arriving in year seven who have slipped behind in English and maths at primary school. The money will come in from next January, with schools deciding how to spend it to help pupils with weaker results in maths and English.

The Conservatives inherited an excellent service from the Liberal Democrats. Ofsted identified Somerset County Council as an 'outstanding model' for safeguarding children. Children's services were described in 2009 as one of the best in the country.

SHOCK AT OFSTED SAFEGUARDING REPORT ON SOMERSET.

The recent Ofsted Inspection results were released yesterday morning. Somerset has gone from "outstanding" under the Liberal Democrats to "adequate" under the Conservatives.
Gloria Cawood, the Shadow Cabinet Member for Children & Families said - "It is clear that Somerset was within a whisker of Special Measures.
